A Karnataka cuisine, instant one pot meal .Bisi-bele-bath in Kannada means bisi- hot, bele- lentil and bath-Rice. A Flavorful rice with lentil and vegetables which is a frequent weekend dish. One of my favourites.
INGRIDENTS:
· 1 knol -khol, chopped
long (6 cms)
· 1 carrot, chopped
long (6 cms)
· 8 beans, chopped
long (6 cms)
· 1/2 cup peas
· 1 potato chopped
long (6 cms)
· 2 whole
drumsticks chopped long (6 cms)
· 2 tbsp peanuts
· 5 cups water
· ¼ tsp turmeric
· 1½ tsp salt
· ¾ cup tamarind
extract(goose berry sized tamarind)
· ½ tsp jaggery
· ½ cup
small onions, pealed
· 1 cup toor
dal,
· 2 cups rice
· 1 cup water
· 1 tbsp ghee
/ clarified butter
· 1 tbsp cooking oil
MASALA:
ALAMELUS ANJARAIPETTI BISI BELE BATH POWDER:4-5 tspn depending on the level of spiciness
FOR TEMPERING:
·
2 tbsp Ghee
· 1 tsp mustard seeds
· Curry leaves
· 10- 12 broken

INSTRUCTIONS
- Add oil to a deep bottomed pressure cooker or a handi .
- Add the small onions first and saute , then add the rest of the vegetables.
- Now add the washed dal and rice to the sauteed vegetable.
- Now add ¾ cup tamarind extract, 5 cups water and boil for 10 mins.
- Add 4-5 tsp of bisi bisi bele bath masala and close the pressure cooker .
- After three to four whistle and the cooker has released the pressure slowly open.
- Pour the tempering and serve bisi bele bath with a curry and papad
